Two young men were killed in an Avon shooting on Glensford Drive Thursday evening, according to law enforcement.

One man died at the scene, while the second was transported to a hospital where he died a short time later. They were identified as 20-year-old Samual Oliver, of Plainfield, and 20-year-old Patrick Day, of Avon, according to the Avon Police Department.

“The two individuals involved in this incident were believed to have been engaged in a drug-related robbery that took place near a vehicle in the Park Place neighborhood,” reads a statement from the department. “Following an exchange of gunfire between both parties, both individuals were struck and died as a result of their injuries.”

Day went to Avon High School and played football and basketball growing up. He was a caregiver for his mother after she suffered serious medical issues and he took her to appointments, his aunt Bobbiejo Klinkerfuss said.

Her nephew has been judged unfairly after his death, she said.

“He had such a big heart,” said Klinkerfuss. “He does not need to be remembered like that. He had a very forgiving heart and soul.”

Efforts by IndyStar to reach family and friends of Oliver were unsuccessful before publication of this article.

The investigation into the shooting remains active, police said. Glensford Drive is located in a residential area near the intersection of Rockville Road and North Avon Avenue.
