Support stories like these:How these IndyStar stories made a difference in Central Indiana and beyond in 2023

Multiple holes in drywall are seen Thursday, July 20, 2023, inside the kitchen of Vinebrook Homes renter Ayanna White (pictured). White's home, which sits on the east side of Indianapolis, has had numerous issues including an over-the-sink cabinet falling off the wall and onto the head of White. The screws used to hold the cabinet in place completely pulled from the wall. The cabinet still sits unmounted atop White's washer and dryer.

Investigations that make change happen

Our Investigations Team seeks to uncover truths that our community members deserve to know. This year, for example, our team looked into dangerous conditions at rental properties in Indianapolis.

They gave a voice to women who accused a pastor of grooming them when they were teens.

Our team joined forces with ProPublica to look into disturbing allegations at a youth treatment facility where the state sends boys, despite receiving numerous reports of abuse. The work caught the attention of Indiana lawmakers, who were alarmed at the lack of accountability.

Food and fun

We welcomed our new dining and drinks reporter, Bradley Hohulin, in 2023. He took our readers' taste buds on a journey with stops to try yak meat and French pastries. He found the best places to get pie, and even had lunch in a multimillion-dollar mansion.

We also sent reporters and photographers to iconic performances in Indianapolis. They watched Kiss get back on track in their farewell tour. They saw Pink's aerial acrobatics. They covered Farm Aid's historic return to the city, featuring Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and more. And when Taylor Swift announced three Indy shows on her Eras Tour, our whole team stepped up to tell fans what they needed to know.

Comprehensive sports coverage for Central Indiana and beyond

Our team goes beyond the box scores to break news, tell the stories that happen away from the game, and give in-depth analysis on the pros, college and high school sports.

We told you the story of Colts player Ryan Kelly and his wife Emma, whose twin boys fought to survive just a year after tragedy struck the family.

Gregg Doyel is always a must-read, whether he's telling you why tiny Kitchel is an Indiana basketball story at the intersection of Here Today, Gone Tomorrow, or breaking down the year's biggest events like March Madness and the Indy 500.

Our high school coverage is second to none in the state. From football and basketball to wrestling, volleyball and everything in between, we get you ready for the seasons and break down the results.

Award-winning photojournalism

By subscribing to IndyStar, you're supporting the full-time photojournalists and freelancers who capture what's going on around our city every day. Databases you won't find elsewhere

Our team compiles data on topics ranging from government salaries to live power outages.

These databases can be accessed by our readers, along with providing valuable insights into our community that allow our reporters to discover untold stories.

Earlier this summer, we compared the top salaries at all the universities in Indiana to discover who the highest-paid employees were and the payouts going to top faculty and sports positions.

Sports fans have also loved our databases tracking where your favorite high school athletes are playing now. You can search to find your favorite football, boys and girls basketball players from across Indiana.
