The 2010 Sachem Award recipient, Carl Erskine of Anderson, Indiana, held up a Special Olympics medal won by his son, Jimmy, as he made comments at the 2010 Sachem Award ceremony at the Statehouse on March 2, 2010. Then-Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels presented the award to Erskine, a former Brooklyn Dodgers baseball player, "in recognition of a lifetime of excellence and virtue that has brought credit and honor to Indiana."
