So I'm trying to send you a text message. No, really. I am.

We’re offering something new here at the IndyStar, a text-message group with me running point. You won’t see everyone else’s texts, just mine, though on occasion I’ll highlight a reader’s text and share my response with the group.

If you’re like me and don’t love your phone pinging all day long, don’t worry about that. I’m thinking the sweet spot will be 1-2 texts a day, perhaps a few more if something big is happening, an insider mixture of sports, personal, and reaction from the folks I write about. Kind of like my columns, only much, much shorter. And more personal! This will be unique stuff, just between us, and it’s available only to subscribers.

IndyStar sports columnist Gregg Doyel received the first Indiana Sports Corp Inspiring Sports Storyteller Award Sept. 6 at Crane Bay Event Center.

The only thing easier than joining this text-message group will be opting out if you decide it’s not for you. To join, click the link below, log in with your online credentials and sign up for the text group with your phone number. Nobody else in the group chat will be able to see your number, so don’t worry about that.

If you don’t subscribe yet, here you go. Digitally we’re the best deal in town, a Pulitzer Prize-winning, USA Gymnastics-fixing force of nature that covers the local sports scene – Colts, Pacers, colleges, high school, personal profiles – better than anyone.

So log in, sign up for the text-message group and let’s see what happens. All I know is, it starts like this. I’m trying to send you a text message
